She’d swish them around, wring them out with her bare hands, then toss them into the diaper pail until laundry day. I told my friends this and they nearly lost it. Meanwhile I’m like, “Yeah… that was just a normal day in my house.”
But the more I think about it, the more I realize how insanely resourceful parents used to be. No disposables, no magical detergents, no shortcuts. Just pure practicality and doing whatever needed to get done.
These days we complain if the wipes are cold or if the diaper pail smells a little off. Back then? They were basically doing battlefield laundry missions in the bathroom.
And honestly, it makes me kind of proud — like we come from a long line of warriors. Toilet-bowl warriors, sure, but still warriors.
So now I’m curious… did anyone else’s mom or grandma do this? Please tell me I’m not the only one with this core memory living in my head rent-free.
